I've had some OS-tan pictures I started in 2014 that I was about to finish up and upload. I forgot about them for so long and hadn't finished them because I've been so busy with my job, and with my original series. Some members of the OS-tan fandom I've talked to left, and I lost contact with them a long time ago, including one of the members who had inspired me the most, and I was just about to post some ideas for characters to the OS-tan forum when I found out today that it's no longer available.

For 11 years, I was a member of that forum, and I'm sad that it's gone as of the start of this year, but I didn't find out until just now. I didn't get to ask for other members' Skype names so I could keep in touch with them after the forum went down. I still have a lot of ideas for OS-tan comics, drawings, or character concepts that I never got to, and I'm not sure if I ever will, or if I should. The disappearance of that forum due to near lack of activity feels like a huge blow to me. The OS-tan fandom was the fandom I was involved with for the longest, and I felt more involved there than any other fandom I've been in, and I miss it so much. :(
Magical Renegades sorta 10th anniversary part 4
Melody and Tricia are two of the characters I created for a prototype story to Magical Renegades, and they've had some of the most drastic re-designs. When you redesign a character so drastically, and rewrite their backstories, would you consider the current versions be considered the same characters as before, even if in name only?

It's obvious I originally designed these characters back when I was in middle school, especially Tricia. She was the character who swore a lot, and picked fights with friends and foes alike.

She was originally one of the toughest characters, but since she's still only human and many of the other characters who were human in their original designs now aren't, she still has some tricks of her own and is a skilled survivalist.

I went on a trip for the 4th of July weekend, and while I was there, I bought some art supplies, and would like to experiment more with traditional art. I might need a new scanner before I could scan any completely traditional works though since lately whenever my scanner scans a picture, the left third of the scanned picture ends up being heavily covered in pixelated noise, and I've tried different scanner settings. When that happens, I have to manually clean up the line art in Photoshop before I can color it in.

I've had the same scanner for the past 10 years, and it was already old when I got it! OSX 10.4 was the last Mac OS version to support it, so I ran into a problem when I got a new computer running 10.5, in 2009. I used my previous Mac running 10.4 to scan pictures, but that computer might not work anymore. For the past few years, I hooked my scanner to a netbook running Xubuntu, and had to install a third-party driver so that it'd work with the scanner, and then after all that, I'd transfer the scanned pictures to my main computer.

That still works, but there comes a point that I'm going to need a new scanner, and a new computer, but when?

When do you decide to get a new computer or other device? I try to keep using them for as long as I can, but at this point, what I'm using isn't practical anymore, but I'm still hesitant to replace them.

A few days ago, I went to the local Best Buy to look at computers. The friend I was with was strongly suggesting I get a PC. But I've only ever done my graphics work on a Mac. I'm fine with using Windows 7 on a PC, but I don't like using Windows 8 or 10, and all Windows PCs now ship with 10. I don't like some of the most recent Macs either, so I feel stuck. If I were to get a Mac, I'd probably get a recent iMac, or a MacBook that's a couple of years old since I prefer those over the newest MacBooks. If I were to get PC as my main computer, I'd want to dual-boot Linux on it, but with which ever one, I'd prefer to keep using my current graphics tablet, which I've had for 5 years. Whatever computer I get, I'd need to find the drivers for the tablet.

I've become a luddite over the years, and it wasn't intentional. I thought if my computer and scanner still work, and aren't terribly impractical for daily use, then I shouldn't need to replace them. I didn't think it was necessary for me to get a smartphone for years, but a year ago, I got an iPhone 4. Not the 4S, an original iPhone 4, just because I needed something I could use the internet on between breaks at work, and someone offered me one for free.

Since I got back into Pokemon earlier this year, I was excited about the launch of Pokemon Go, but my phone can't run it. That's a silly reason to want to upgrade, isn't it? Another thing that made me regret not upgrading my computer or replacing it as my main computer was when I found out about the latest update to Krita. It looks amazing as a free replacement for Photoshop, but my computer can't run it because of the OS requirements.
My New DA ID
I've been long overdue for a new ID!

I might have to change my username though, which I didn't put because my username is named after one of the main characters of my webcomic. At the time I created this account, I didn't have a character representing myself, but how I appear here is how I'll appear, as a joke character! The laptop and tablet closely match the laptop and tablet I actually use, and I've been using both for years! I really like Art Noveau aesthetics, and have been experimenting with them lately.

Magical Renegades sorta 10th anniversary part 3
Katt has had the most changes to her character design in between incarnations. Her first designs can be seen in part 2 (kattlanna.deviantart.com/art/M…). The trend with each redesign has been to make it fancier!

I liked how her first magical girl redesign turned out, but I only just remembered it after looking through some old drawings.

In the 2008 incarnation, Katt was going to be one of the only characters dressed in a (vaguely) Victorian-style outfit. Katt was going to be the steampunk enthusiast, another of her friends was a hippie, another was a rockabilly and 1950's fashion enthusiast, and another is fond of 1980's fashion. Those all still remain, but I really wanted to incorporate steampunk elements into the plot and setting, which led to the introduction of time traveler characters and a time-travel plot and the space-time continuum crashing as a way to justify it all. Originally, the plot was just about the antagonist ruling a then unspecified area, and the protagonists seeking to overthrow her. This change helped me with world-building, to give a history to a previously undefined setting, and raised the stakes so that not just its fate, but the fate of the space-time continuum is also on the line!

If it weren't for finding out about steampunk and finding it so fascinating when I did, Magical Renegades might have still been like what I had intended back in 2006, with it being more of an episodic gag series centering around Katt's and Kayla's misadventures with their just as weird friends. I know it's weird I changed everything on a whim like that, but it helped me pin down a style and tone for both the comic, and the site design for it.

I graduated college in 2014. I've been drawing webcomics for the past 10-11 years, and so much of what I've learned about writing and drawing webcomics comes from trial-and-error. My main webcomic is "Magical Renegades ~ Anathema to Commonsense".

The fandom I've been in the longest is the OS-tan fandom, which I've been in since 2005. I was already fascinated with the old Apple computers before I found the OS-tan fandom, but finding it introduced me to a lot of retro computer systems, and free and open source OSes, sparking my interests in retrocomputing and hobbyist OSes!

I'm also interested in historical art styles and architecture. My favorite architecture style is rococo, and my favorite historical art styles are Art Noveau and Art Deco.
